This weekend was super fun. Saturday night we had friends over for dinner and drinks, it was really great but I drank just a little too much wine haha! I have my cake decorating class Sunday mornings but I had to skip it due to a vino headache, as well as another little technicality.
I had made two delicious vanilla cakes Saturday evening to take to my class on Sunday, I was supposed to have my cake iced twice and ready to decorate. Problem was I only had one wire rack to lay my cake to cool on…so late Saturday night I tried to get the cake out of the pan, all I got was crumbs. *sigh* sooo disappointing. Maybe it was the way i let them cool or the fact that two slightly intoxicated girls tried to remove them from the pan, a toss up really.
So I couldn’t really get up Sunday morning with the worst headache ever and bake and ice another cake for ten a.m. Wasn’t happening, especially with the time change! Sooo I made cake pops out of the cake crumbs, delish but not at easy as it looks! But once you get a technique going it gets a lot easier, next time ill be prepared haha!
I was explaining this cake class dilemma to my friend and she started cracking up calling me a Stepford Wife, “you missed your cake decorating class because you drank too much wine at your dinner party” followed by laughing. Yea I kind of do see her point, guess I am becoming domesticated haha but I love it. I had a roommate who used to call me Martha, aka Martha Stewart so I can see the point.
The cake pop kit I bought was at costco and it came with everything you need to make those babies! The best tip I can give you is to make sure you add enough frosting to the cake so you can form non crumbly pops, and to always dip the stick in the candy and put it in the cake, that creates a seal to keep the pop on the stick! Next time I think I’ll go to Michaels and but the bags of candy wafers myself, the kit never really had enough and I think it would be better if you melted enough that when you dip your pop in it was completely immersed in the candy.
Here’s some pics of the process!
